In Völuspá, Odin calls the soul of a Volva (prophetess) to ask about the past and future of the world. The prophetess asked Odin if he really wanted to know it. Odin emphasized that as the king of gods, he needed that knowledge. Finally, the prophetess tells Odin the secrets of the past and the future and sinks back into darkness. In Norse mythology there exists an infinite abyss (similar to Chaos in Greek mythology) called Ginnungagap. Ginnungagap exists between two contradictory areas, cold in the north, called Niflheim or the icy land. From Niffheim there is a well called Hvergelmir, which flows into 11 rivers: Svöl, Gunnthrá, Fjörn, Fimbulthul, Slid, Hrid, Sylgr, Ylgr, Vid, Leiptr and Gjoll (the river flows closest to Hel and has trees Gjallarbru bridge crosses over), these rivers are collectively referred to as Elivágar (glacier).
