During the Anglo-Burmese wars (1823-26, 1852-53 and 1885-87), Burma lost some territory to the British and became a British Indian province. On April 1, 1937, Burma became a separate administrative colony, independent of Indian administration. In the 1940s, Thirty San led by Aung San formed the independent Burmese Army [20].
