Albania, the official name Republic of Albania (Albanian: Republika e Shqipërisë, IPA [ɾɛˈpubliˌka ɛ ˌʃcipəˈɾiːs] or simply Shqipëria, Vietnamese transcription: "Albania") is a country in Southeast Europe. The name Albania is thought to have existed since ancient times, perhaps from pre-Celtic alb, from which the Alps are named, or possibly albh (white) in Indo-European language, from there are Albino and Albanon, perhaps alluding to snowy peaks covered in Albania. The name of this country, Shqipërisë, means "The Land of the Eagles", so there is a two-headed bird in the country flag and because there are many birds living in the mountains of Albania.
